I confirm this bug for Intrepid. Updated from Hardy. Same Hardware.
This bug cames after a config with pppoeconf.
Yesterday I tried to connect to a pppoe network - failed. Up to this my
/network/interfaces has an new entry
auto dsl-provider
iface dsl-provider inet ppp
pre-up /sbin/ifcon
Commenting the line is a functional workaround of this bug.
Although I don't suggest it... it works.
Waiting for a proper bug fix.

Same problem here, just upgraded to Intrepid yesterday.
ASUS X57 (m50sa) laptop.
I'm trying to comment iface lines as suggested by Sokraates and see what

In connection with bug #279262 I commented out the "iface XXX inet
dhcp"-lines in my /etc/network(interfaces and now the system boots fine
without interuptions.

I confirm this on a fresh installation of Kubuntu Intrepid Ibex (i.e. no
upgrade from Hardy), updated ca. 13:00 CET. No network config files were
