Duplex works now. But if I try to print non duplex, that does not work anymore.
Please solve it as following: Every programm should use the same gnome
printing mask. That way gnome ensures, that every app has the same
options and has a functioning printing mask!

I use 8.04
It is with the Printing options of evince:
1. Select range
2. Select "even pages"
By the way: Usually it makes sense to remember the previous selection.
But for "odd / even" pages or "All / Range / Current" it does not.
Please change that.
