Hi gobble,
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

PS: It doesn't matter if my SD slots are either empty or loaded for the

Booting without USB attached didn't fix either problem.
In the end, I used rsync to clone Ubuntu from my old hard drive onto my
new hard drive, and after I rebooted, all of the problems went away.
Suspend/resume started working again, X stopped crashing when I changed

Yes, my laptop has an SD/MMC slot (an HP TC4200). Nothing is in the
slot, though.
I've been running Kubuntu on this laptop for over a year, and Intrepid

Originally I reported this, but it skipped my attention that my Dell

I can confirm that this is still a problem on the 8.10 CD.
I installed Kubuntu 8.10 x86 from CD, and /var/log/kernel is getting
filled with the following messages:
Mar 29 09:59:05 bean kernel: [ 3666.846313] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] READ CAPACITY
failed

Hello gobble,
It would be great if you could test with latest release (8.10 or 9.04) and
verify if this is still an issue.
You can do that with the live-CD, not upgrading.
Thank you

Dear Ubuntu Team
I am quite perplexed by your frequent recommendations to upgrade an LTS

stability - isn't it obvious? Are'nt you folks forgetting your social

The Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Beta release was most recently announced -

Ubuntu kernel. It would be great if you could test and verify if this
is still an issue. The status is being set to Incomplete until we
receive further feedback.
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:
