Thanks for taking the time to report this issue it seems to be a
behaviour that is intended under some circumstances as described here. I
therefore close this bug as it also marked for expiration since more
than a week.

paste_detect_time. That is, if your irssi receives the next character
faster than that time it thinks it received it via a paste and does not
expand.

nicks. I run irssi in screen from home; this most often happens when I'm
at e.g. UDS so I imagine irssi gets (in one read)
