The issue has disappeared in Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.1 amd64. I've retested

I get the problem with linux-backports-modules, also. But not as
frequently. I'm stumped as to what is causing it.
The problem started about the same time I was using dosemu (learning
assembly from book that uses dos tools), and had to use the vmmap fix.
So I thought that might have been

I spoke too soon. I got the kernel oops again last night.
But I cannot now replicate the bug at will.
I'm going to test frequently today with the rfkill switch off, to see if
it is possible to isolate to the wireless interface and driver.

On a hunch today, I tested to see if the breakage occured with hibernate
also. It did not.

Thanks for the information. It might be worth you also attaching your
/var/log/kern.log to the report as well. The log you attached doesn't
contain the information I expected to see (kernel oops when you suspend,
as indicated in your syslog)
