I confirm this bug. The same happens for me also. It is random ,but
there's no need to login again, just replace compiz with: # compiz
--replace
I'll try to get a .xsession-errors when I get this bug again. For now
this is whenever it works:

The bug occurs for me only rarely and it is impossible to predict when.
Therefore I cannot reproduce it reliably. However, I will report again
if it occurs for me under 8.10 or 9.04. Thank you.

Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04?
