Thanks, Sergey. We still need your log files, though. You should be able
to find the logs from the installation you did (without having to repeat
it) in /var/log/installer/syslog and /var/log/installer/partman.

Were you using the final version of Ubuntu 8.04 or one of the daily CD
images? The reason I ask is that I recall a very similar bug that we
fixed shortly before release. Also, can you please post /var/log/syslog
and /var/log/partman from an installation attempt following the
instructions in http:
