I have a similar problem. I installed the Firefox version that came
with the Ubuntu 8.04 distribution CD, but have religiously upgraded, and
now have version 3.0.14. The Firefox browser reports the Shockwave
Flash to be of version 9.0 r100. I have tried installing newer versions
of flash player,

Ubuntu 8.04 already has 'flashplugin-nonfree' of the 124 version
