try this:
sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-intrepid
echo ath5k >>/etc/modules
echo "blacklist ath_hal" >>/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
echo "blacklist ath_pci" >>/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
echo "blacklist ath9k" >>/etc/

You have to install linux-backports-modules-intrepid and insert ath5k in
/etc/modules.
After that you have to blacklist the other ath-modules in
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
blacklist ath_hal
blacklist ath_pci
blacklist ath9k
