I have to narrow it down a bit.
Tor could be causing it, because it is currently installed.
I'll post further findings. As for now it doesn't seem to be hunting me
anymore. (although it happened multiple times this afternoon)

I had the exact same problem.
Disabling all addons and then enabling them one by one, showed torbutton
(1.2.0rc1) to cause problems for me. Disabling this addon solved my
problem. I have not investigated further, so I don't know whether this
is a bug or a feature with torbutton.

What sort of sites? Some sites will force you to re-login as a security
measure, although that period sounds rather short.
Does this happen when you close and re-open firefox, or also if you
leave firefox open and browse to other sites?
