I have not really changed my system in any big way: I have loaded up

But which version of openoffice.org is it? 1:2.4.0-3ubuntu6 or something
newer?

Dear Vinny2691, I don't think it has to do with the hardware of your system...
Does your problem occur when opening a specific file / files, or when just
running the application from the menu?
Have you changed your system in any particular way? Can you tell us the version
of openoffice you're run
