This is fixed in GDM2 which has a "log in" button.

If so that is a functionality that gdm should have. This is definitely
something worth giving a go at pushing upstream and I'm pretty sure the
gdm chaps would like it. :)

Yes. Buttons are not the issue here however.
What is currently impossible is the ability to have TWO input boxes --
one for Logon and one for Password on the screen simultaneously.
If we push this upstream, we might get results.
Then again, all of this GL madness might get in the way.
Better
Buttons can be added... obviously not in a text input area but beside
it. I'm pretty sure you can use XML to do it and if not you can use a
graphic...

Within the current implementation of GDM, I believe it is impossible to
link a button to the input area. We should probably close this bug or
file the issue against upstream GDM implementation.
