Actually, this bug appears to be caused by X picking a vertical refresh
rate that is outside the range of my monitor (NEC LCD 1700V). I tried
using a different monitor and the issue goes away.

I tested this with the Jaunty Alpha 6 live CD. The flashing issue still

I have a similar problem: Ubuntu 8.04 with nvidia Go 7600 graphic card.
Problem is, screen flashes (like a blink) some 4 times a minute. I have
the packages "Non-free Linux 2.6.24 modules on x86/x86_64" and "nvidia-
glx-new" installed which I believe to be the proper choices. I have
