No reason to feel embarrassed - there might have actually been a bug
during the upgrade changing your keyboard setting, but it's too late to
find this one. I go for the 'invalid' status instead of the one you
proposed ;-)

Actually whatever keyboard layout I chose I had always the exact same
behavior, but I until your post I realized that my "Tastaturmodell" got
changed. I just selected the right one and all of the sudden everything
is working fine.

tested the default Swiss German keyboard layout and got the behaviour you seem
to want (i.e. _with_ dead keys). It might be that during the updates since
feisty your keyboard layout got changed...

layout. I've been using the same keyboard layout since Feisty, and in
Feisty it worked properly. Then when I did the upgrade to Gutsy it
stopped working and no matter what keyboard layout I choose, the

thanks for your bug report. I'm not sure, I understand the problem correctly.
If you set the keyboard layout to "eliminate dead keys", typing ~+n _should_
give you "~n", otherwise "~" would be a dead key... Maybe your problem is
solved by chosing the default layout instead of the nodeadkeys
