Jack2 is available on some PPA for 10.04.
There are some good stuff like "pulse-jack" package, and plugin jack for
pulse-audio too. But this bug and what is around will really be fixed
only when it will be possible to manage all that in a simple gui. It
would be great, for exemple, to have the p

Moved this to 'incomplete' since I couldn't move it to 'won't fix'.
Hopefully jack2, which has dbus negotiation, will be in 10.10 which
should alleviate this problem.

Now that libjack is in main, time to discuss the original problem.
QjackCtl has a ubuntu-written wrapper script that suspends Pulseaudio upon
qjackctl start. The workaround is to avoid the qjackctl wrapper script by
calling "qjackctl.bin" instead of "qjackctl". While this is nice in some

Notes: jack is already in main for Lucid. pulse has been compiled with
support for it.
jack1 does not have dbus negotiation, so this symptom will continue for
Lucid (which very probably will not receive jack2) unless we make some
pretty horrible hacks for qjackctl. What would need to be done is to

Mixx will use what jack 1 or 2 can provide. You have to set jackd for 2
sound cards first.

Joe Madaus,
You should be aware that Lucid is not released at this point and the
link falktx supplied is to an Alpha image that is currently being
tested.
You may find it inadvisable to install the Lucid Alpha onto a production
box as it may be unstable at this time.

I think it's possible with Jack2 (also available in my PPA).
but of course you'll have to set a default card.
At least Mixxx should be able to detect 2 soundcards when using Jack1/2

we just need to add the "pulseaudio-module-jack[-dbg]" to the

But there are PPAs for this.
For karmic:

For lucid, use mine:

Hi falktx
how hard is it to compile those two together?

If pulseaudio is compiled with Jack support, this is no longer a problem
(tested in Lucid).
If Lucid will really have Jack in main, this won't be an issue

Qjackctl uses pasuspender to suspend pulseaudio while it's running.
The workaround is to use qjackctl.bin instead of qjackctl
Of course you need to have correct pa/jack setup (e.g. pulse -> jack ->
alsa using module-jack-(sink|source))
