I've been having the same problem with the authentication timing out,
but it only affects WEP networks as far as i can tell. This Ubuntu
intrepid ibex beta kernel 2.6.27-6-generic with 3945ABG wifi. I've just
updated to 2.6.27-7-generic and will test later.

Can you actually test the even newer 2.6.27 kernel which is available in
the lastest Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Alpha5 release. You should be able to
