Dear Harald,
I believe that it can be fixed in Ubuntu (Hardy) by either upgrading to
the Debian version of the package (openswan_2.4.12+dfsg-1.3+lenny4) or
backporting the patch that fixes it from that package.
I believe that this bug has security implications, as it prevents a
security mechanism

I'm not sure how this problem can be fixed best in Ubuntu, if this is
still an issue for you maybe an experienced Ubuntu developer could
elaborate on the possibilities of an upload?
