Dear Harald, I believe that it can be fixed in Ubuntu (Hardy) by either upgrading to the Debian version of the package (openswan_2.4.12+dfsg-1.3+lenny4) or backporting the patch that fixes it from that package. I believe that this bug has security implications, as it prevents a security mechanism
