Nah, you're right, under LTS 6.06 its fine. Its due to be closed.
I have filed elsewhere that SDL performance under LTS 6.06 on powerpc (mac
mini in my case) is unusually CPU hoggy.

It's fixed under Dapper. SDL across the board on Dapper on PowerPC seems
quite sluggish though. But I'll take sluggish over wiping out my X session
any day. The sooner all graphics are accelerated visuals, the better.
