whoops, sorry for not reacting. I think Sebastien was right indeed, and
it makes sense I guess. I've been using that tray notification for the
past few months and either I got used to it, or the problem has indeed
vanished, or it was pebkac.

the icon is not displayed when you send and receive because then you
trigger the action and have the dialog on screen so you don't need an
extra icon, it should be displayed when mails are automatically updated
though, do you still get the issue?

hmm, is it supposed to work only when the mail is received by the automated
check, or should it also work when you click send/receive manually? The icon
appeared on my laptop, but it is difficult to reproduce.

Indeed, I see that it works on my other computer. I don't understand why
this one does not work. Both are hardies. So how can I reset the relevant
settings to make it work? I don't want to reset all account
settings/calendars/mails/tasks...

can you reproduce this behavior using a new user account?, I'm using evolution
under Hardy Heron right now and the notification plugin works as expected.
