I get a similar error using nautilus gui and copying many big files from my
local folder on a NAS file server with samba 3.0.20
I've to retry some time, finally i've copied the files using windows xp.
After this, no other problems i've encountered copying the files.

Thank you for your bug report. Do you have the same issue using gvfs-
copy? Could you run /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd -r on a command line, do a copy
and note if something is printed there when you get the error? Is your
network slow? Is the issue specific to smb copies?
