Is this bug still present today? It has been a long time since the last
response was posted here and meanwhile things could have changes.
There is a chance that it isn't, though, because the version of libmtp8
included in Jaunty is 0.3.0-1ubuntu3, not 3.3.

I just upgraded to Intrepid and grabbed the Ubuntu sources for libmtp8
(0.3.0-1ubuntu1). Unfortunately, the revision in Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex
does not contain the accepted upstream fix I provided for this issue:

Hi, this is a problem I first ran into using Gutsy with libmtp7 and a Philips
HDD1630, after upgrading to Intrepid, with libmtp8, I found the same problem is
there (mtp-detect segfaults) .

When I was debugging the segfault problem I noticed that the device
didn't seem to reset its session state.
I had to unplug the device, wait for a few seconds, and plug it back in.
Are the PTP error messages all related to the session? If so, the
unplug, re-plug workaround might resolve them.

After installing gnomad2 and libtagc0 the mtp-detect finishes ok. I
still got some PTP errors, but not specifically segmentation fault.

Hi I got the same problem.
I'm on Intrepid and have installed all updates. I installed libmtp 0.3.3
from source via build-dep but still the same mtp-detect result:

This has a similar backtrace to a problem I saw on my Philips 1630/17.
I fixed the bug and provided the patch to the libmtp list. The latest
libmtp from CVS may work for you now.
