When I say that switching to 2-D "fixes the problem", that is not really
accurate because switching to 2-D means you are no longer using compiz.

It also fixes the behavior of the "Maximize Window Vertically"
operation. With 3-D it maximizes, but repeating does not restore the
original size. With 2-D the operation toggles, which is arguably a
better behavior.
By the way, by "logging in with the 2-D session" I mean logging out,
then before
Logging out and logging in with the 2-D session fixes this.
