The way the help folder suggests still is incorrect. However this is a
way to make it work:
Copy all your ttf files into a folder (ex: ~/.fonts)
Then run this command
fc-cache -fv [file ttfs are in] (ex: fc-cache -fv ~/.fonts)
Now you have new fonts for all programs to use.
