Thanks Tom. I'm going to tentatively mark this Fix Released at least
for Intrepid. With the 2.6.24 Hardy kernel, I'm curious if you use the
'reboot=b' boot parameter if this allows your to reboot successfully?
This might be a workaround you can use with Hardy kernel in the

I booted off of the Intrepid Alpha4 liveCD, and yes, reboot did work.
For now, though, I will stay with Hardy and the 2.6.24 kernel since this
is a production machine (I am a developer). I am not familiar with the
2.6.26 kernel. Is that an experimental kernel for Hardy? Anyhoo, for now

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.

Just as a status update, there have been serveral Kernel upgrades since
I filed this bug. It still has not fixed the ability to execute a
reboot. I still ahve to either shutdown (and then press the start button
to start back up), or select restart and them manually press the power
button after the
ubrgeek: so far there have been a few kernel upgrades since Hardy came
out. None of them has helped. Just apply the updates that come
automatically - maybe some day one of them will do the job.

This may be a silly question, but would a kernel fix (which I hope
happens sooner rather than later. I have having to head into the
basement to get a successful reboot) list this get taken care of with a
patch? Does apt-get update/upgrade take care of kernel patches?

After talking to some Fedora friends, I have learned that this is a
known kernel issue. Hopefully at some point a kernel update will resolve
this issue.

This bug could really use some love. It is very scary not being able to
reboot your machine. Obviously, it leaves me 2 choices:
1. Go ahead and select reboot, and then manually press the off button to power
off (hold for 5 seconds), then power on.
2. Choose shutdown, and then after the machine ha
