I was able to install Hardy with same configuration by disconnecting one
of the monitors. However, ~50% of the times it boots, the NVIDIA spash
screen comes up distorted and when the login screen eventually comes up
(which isn't always) it is locked up.

Hi,
I'm having similar problems with a Nvidia 9600 GT on a AMD64 X2
platform, but its not related to any updates: The final version of
Ubuntu 8.04 "Hardy" is not able to boot beyond the boot screen (Ubuntu-
Logo + status bar) if MORE THAN ONE monitor is connected. Both Live-CD
and installed system
