Hah! Good luck. The alternative WAS the X Record extension, but that is
now also broken! The only remaining method is reading events from the
EvDev devices under /dev/input, but even this only works about 80% of
the time. I'm getting pretty cynical about the Xorg developers attitude
to accessible t
I hate it when great features are being removed from software! I also
used XEvIE in my programs. Does someone know if there will be a
replacement for XEvIE?
BTW the package libxevie1 providing /usr/lib/libXevie.so.1.0.0 still
exists. Since XEvIE is broken, this package should be removed.

XEViE has been disabled and removed from Xorg, so you can no longer
enable it. This means your only option is polled input.

I can confirm that this exact issue is also appearing in Jaunty. I have
this in XOrg:
Section "Extensions"
Option "XEVIE" "Enable"
EndSection
If I run mumble from the command line, this shows up:
GlobalShortcutX: /dev/input/event2: Macintosh mouse button emulation
GlobalShortcutX: /d
I have this problem now and I'm using Jaunty with latest updates.

I have downgraded libx11 to libx11-6_1.1.1-1ubuntu4_i386.deb (from
Gutsy) now xevie works in Hardy. This must be a libx11 issue and not
libxevie (or mumble).

Anybody know when this will be fixed; get gnome-session working ? I am

I can confirm that xevie works on Gutsy x86_32 but does not work on
Hardy x86_32, http://www.freedesktop.org/~ajax/xevie/xevie-test.txt
doesn't return from the call to XevieStart(dpy).

If you "sudo", Mumble will switch to /dev/input and won't use XEvie at
all.
XEvie actually works for me in the Xorg packages used in the release of
Hardy on x86_64; could the original poster verify that this still is a
problem on 32-bit?

I had same trouble.
I whent on terminal and run " sudo mumble " . Now the push to talk works
.
So has to be some permision that mumbles needs to access some keyboard
related. All that keyboard managmente might mess up things on 8.04

I'm not able to replicate the same bug you have; if I explicitly enable
XEVIE in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, XEVIE will be enabled. (Look through the
log for a line which says "(**) Extension "XEVIE" is enabled")
However, Xevie seems to be broken; if I compile and run the test program
