I have also gotten the problem again, both with 3.0.2 (plucky) and 3.0.4
(questing). According to the upstream bug report it might be related to
dbus to some extent.

I'm getting the same crash. The splash screen opens and shows progress
until it gets stuck at loading Babl Fishes. I have not installed any
extra scripts and I also tried moving away both the 2.0 and 3.0
directories in ~/.config/GIMP.

Just to add, GIMP does run fine as root (sudo gimp), but crashes on a
normal user.
Same behavior for a new user and a fresh install.

Can you check for updates? If its fixed after the updates OK, if is not
reinstall and try again.
Im on Ubuntu 25.04 Beta right now, my GIMP 3.0 opens succesfully, no errors, no
crashs.
