After an update a few days ago, it works again. I didn't make any
changes to settings, just did some updates once in a while. Bug can be
closed.

If this is not working in the latest Lucid kernel (2.6.32-22), there is
a workaround for your AD1986A mixer/codec in bug #308872 which should
help. It seems to be applicable to Lucid, given the similar comment in
the opening description of bug #524948.
