This has to do with the way the profiles are handled and will be fixed
before release. This is saw on another bug report just cant recall t6he
number its been a few weeks.

slashack is correct, Firefox 3 has to be closed for Firefox 2 to run.
Why is that when in Gutsy you could run both simultaneously?

I was just about to post this bug, luckily I found it.
$ ls -l /usr/bin/fire*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 11 2008-04-06 10:25 /usr/bin/firefox -> firefox-3.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 2008-03-26 10:05 /usr/bin/firefox-2 ->
../lib/firefox/firefox-2
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 31 2008-04-06 10:25 /usr/bin/fi
But with versions from gutsy I can run firefox 2 and firefox 3 in same
time.

This always happens when one instance of firefox is running. Try closing
all firefox 3 instances and running firefox-2.
Make sure you are not running firefox 3 by running
ps aux | grep firefox
