I have exactly the same problem, and the install CD doesn't detect it as
IDE either. In gutsy the system and the install CD detects them as IDE
(hdc and hdd) without problems... They are two WD HDs of 75GB each, both
on second IDE cable in master and slave configured (not in cable
select), as my CD
I also found that the hardy live CD does detect the drive, but a fresh
hardy install does not.
