Well, I had been working with a bunch of D600 laptops. The one in
question had a screen with a maximum resolution of 1024x768. The others
supported 1400x1050 natively. I neglected to check the actual native
resolution for the system in question. Therefore, I didn't really

I had dell replace the laptop monitor because it had damaged areas, and
suddenly the screen resolution detected normally, so it must have been a
hardware failure rather than a driver or X-server problem.
