For what it is worth, I can't confirm this with a fresh hardy install as
guest on gutsy host. (The /usr/share/virtualbox/x11config.pl script did
leave out the vbox video driver but it was trivial to add).

Confirm here more or less: I've tried to install guest additions with
the instructions above and with virtualbox 'install additions' -menu but
with no success.. hardy as guest, gutsy as host.

Can you please provide your working xorg.conf and the one where it did not
work, or better a "diff" against it?
Is it just different mouse and video drivers, in the working setup?
