renders it totally unusable in Ubuntu Bionic.

Can be solved by upgrading to the latest ppa version:
sudo add-apt-repository --yes ppa:js-reynaud/kicad-4
sudo apt update
sudo apt install kicad
Is it possible for one of the package maintainers to package the PPA
version instead?

Here is a screenshot of what I see under compiz'
To reproduce it :
Move the cursor fast over the window. Some seconds later, cursor "ghost" will
appear.
