After enabling -proposed and updating gnome-desktop to version
42.1-0ubuntu1 I can confirm that version 42.1 is shown in the 'About'
screen of the 'Settings' application.

Accepted gnome-desktop into jammy-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
desktop/42.1-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.
