That isn't a solution. Try and be practical. Many people use the .local suffix on their domain names. They're not going to change it just so that they can add an Ubuntu machine to their domain - or because you said so. This needs to be fixed. There needs to be a way around the problem. I understan

Ahm... This isn't a bug in likewise. It's just bad luck, cause there's a 'war' for '.local' between Apple and Microsoft. You can find out some details here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeroconf#Name_resolution Solution: don't use '.local' for anything. Use '.lan' or something like that. -- Dom

Thanks again Adam for your reply. The linux box is using the DC as the only DNS server (which is correctly given through DHCP). I'm not sure what software you're talking about when you ask about the version I'm running. But, here is what I am running on the linux box: Hardy Heron with all update

Yep, that using the server's IP for DNS should be the same. Another thing to try is to manually create the DNS A record for the Linux machine, then try joining. Also, just for kicks what happens if you enter servername.domain.local when trying to join? -- Domain Join doesn't work on Hardy Heron

The next thing worth checking, is to make sure that DNS is properly configured for the domain, and that the PDC is configured to use it. As an example when I was setting up a test machine my PDC also served DNS, but wasn't using 127.0.0.1 for lookups. Can you double check that? Also, if you need

Thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. I'm not sure if this will help or not, but you can try syncing the workstations time with the PDC. You can do this with the net command that is part of the samba-common package. To sync the time do: net time -S domaincontroller
