I found my own fix:
The refusal was: /usr/lib/policykit-1/policykit-agent-helper-1
The fix: sudo chmod 5755 (followed by above)

I'll close this. Unfortunately, "Invalid" is the only status available
in which to do this.
John, when reporting bugs please use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug'
OK. This fixed the problem:
sudo chmod 5755 /usr/lib/policykit-1/polkit-agent-helper-1
