I'm experiencing the same here. KDE4 dies shortly after launch, and lots

Yes, this solved the problem while all other efforts (reinstalling kde4,
removing ~/.kde4, new user) didnt work.

I can confirm that deleting /etc/kde4rc has solved the problem with
running Skype and Keepass in my case. Speedcrunch is also ok.

So I broke my system for no reason.
Actaully /etc/kde4rc should be removed about a week ago.

When I removed /etc/kde4rc all qt4 apps suddenly started working agin.
I think that this is actually is a duplicate of bug #193498
Also, I am not using Qt 4.4.
I think that the reason it worked on my i386-machine was that with the same
version of kubuntu-default-settings installed (1:8.04-11) on t

No it is not.
Both qBittorent and speedcrunch use Qt 4, just like KDE 4 (new
information, really :P). Anyway, after installing Jonathan Riddell's Qt
4.4 snapshot suddenly ksudoku stopped working (omg!), speedcrunch didn't
though that might be due to the arch since it has been reported to work
on i

The same here on amd64.
I installed KDE4.0 some weeks ago on Hardy4 and it worked like it should.
I went with the updates to KDE4.01 which worked too.
But scince a couple of days i get the same error messages like the OP.

that problem after I switched to a different KDE4 style engine. Strange,
