I had the same issue upgrading from hardy to intrepid.
Updating the driver (changing make and model driver from the printer
preferences) to the latest one fixes the issue

I have had the same experience:
Samsung printer (ML-2010), Gutsy to Hardy upgrade,
changing to the 1.1.0 printer driver worked for me too.
