Note to self, for the 5.4 packages in Lucid this would requiring adding
NetworkManager/dbus support to lsass:MediaSenseStart(). Currently this
function only supports media sense on OS X.

As suggested on the upstream bug, likewise-open does come back from
unplugged-mode, after "winbind cache time" seconds (default is 900).
Setting this to a lower value will make it reconnect faster, though it
might not be needed, as using cache credentials is perfectly valid if
its not permanent.

I reproduced it (likewise-open goes to "unplugged-mode and never comes
back) but a reboot fixes it (or a restart of likewise-open, as cfrein
suggested). You might be hitting bug 205111 on the reboot (likewise-open
removes init script links on domain join, resulting in likewise not
restarting automa
Similar for me. But login with cached credentials is still possible.
Restarting the service with "sudo invoke-rc.d likewise-open restart"
with network cable plugged in helps here.
