Hi there,
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem

You should not have to rebuild pcscd if you use a version of pcsc-lite
>= 1.5.4 (June 2009)
- if RFAddReader() fails with the libhal scheme then we try with the
(old) libusb scheme. This patch should allow proprietary drivers to
work even if pcsc-lite is compiled with libhal support.

Smartcard reader not working (CASTLES EZ
Hi,
I have made it work under 8.10, recompiling pcscd for libusb instead of
libhal. It seems that the driver needs access to the libusb structures.
In fact, in the latest version for EZUSB (1.4.6) readme points out that
using pcscd compiled with libhal won't work.
It is not a clean solution, but
8:10 (upgraded from 7.10) - still problem
Even after "mount -t usbfs none /proc/bus/usb" there is:
kernel: [ 6049.632045] usb 3-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and
address 4
kernel: [ 6049.811876] usb 3-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
pcscd: hotplug_libhal.c:342:HPAddDevice()
Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 or 9.04?

Oops, I was wrong. It is not a hotplug issue since the reader is
detected.
It is a problem with the driver. You should forward the bug to the
CASTLES EZ100PU driver package.

I've tried Live-CDs
- kubuntu 6.10 - smartcard reader works
- ubuntu 7.10 - no go.
I've installed libusb-0.1-4, libusb-dev, libc6, libc6-i686, libc6-dev
from Debian. Still without effect.
