I turned off visual effects, and the behaviour on suspending was exactly
the same -- the machine suspends, and on resuming, the fans and hard
disk start up, but the screen and keyboard do not function. So, I have
no idea whether there's a kernel panic or what, because I can't see the

I tried this again on Intrepid with today's updates.
The machine hibernates very successfully.
The machine suspends. On resume, the machine starts up (I can hear fans
and perhaps the hard disk), but the monitor stays asleep, and the
USB/Bluetooth keyboard remains disconnected, like its dongle is

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would

Hi Steve,
Sorry for the delayed response. Is this still an issue with the latest
2.6.24-19 kernel? If so, have you tried the latest Intrepid Alpha3

Compiz may trigger this, but its certainly a bug in the kernel and/or

It suspended and resumed just fine.
I turned desktop effects back on, and got a similar kernel panic.
So, I guess this is related to compiz.
