You are right. I made some tests. It's not about the x-server it's about
recovery mode. Networking won't work in recovery mode.

I just tried it out and it does indeed work. Do you find this error
after being connected for a long time? Also, can you use the command
line to connect without GDM being on? Thanks for taking the time to
