I seem to have a similar problem (linux-image-2.6.24-12-generic)· But
for me the timeout is much bigger, more than one minute. This happens
just at the beginning of the boot-process. Will have to boot without
boot-splash to give more information.

I confirm that boot with clocksource=hpet fixes that problem. However, I
still see usplash bar going left to right and right to left for a 2
seconds, I'm not sure that it is normal since it didn't happen wth
gutsy. Thanks for the workaround!
