It is not working under KDE 4.1. On the same computer it works under KDE 3.5.9.
They both run the same X, so I doubt it has something to do with it.
What kind of solution do you propose - closing the bug doesn't solve a
problem!

Time to mark the bug invalid, I guess.
If the keycodes are sent it is working fine, everything else would be an
xorg issue.

I've upgraded to Kubuntu Hardy (8.04), but the problem still persists.
Under KDE 3.5.9 buttons work fine.
