Answering my own question:
No, this was the wrong file. I extracted the right one from the gut repository
here:
https://aur.archlinux.org/pkgbase/nvidia-340xx/
Needed to adjust the paths in the .patch file, but now it works.

Please, can this be fixed in time? Users on hardware that requires this driver
have no other option: either this works or they are left with an anusable
system (like myself right now).
