Unbelievable, I fixed this by running from a command line:
- sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
- sudo apt-get upgrade
I expected this to be the exact same thing the GUI-based software updater was
supposed to do when I said yes to the "partial upgrade".

What I hate most about this error message is, besides how awfully vague
it is, it doesn't have a "details" button to show WHAT THE FUCK EXACTLY
is wrong.
"Not all updates can be installed" - is it too hard to tell me WHICH
FUCKING ONES cannot be installed?? That would be a start.
