Confirmed, the directory is not created on the desktop but wherever
gnome-desktop-item-edit is ran, I've sent that upstream to
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=517617

Yes, it is still being created. I've just checked it.

Right by now, I have a reproducible way for the bug:
1) I have laid a custom script "myscript.py" in the /usr/local/bin directory.
2) At my desktop I choose "Create Launcher ..." in the right-click menu.
3) I do not touch the "Type: Application" field there.
4) I write the name of the script "MySc
It is hard to tell the exact steps, since it just happens sometimes. And
it is when I play with setting new icons. The last time when it
happened, was yesterday (sunday 2008/02/03). One note: I occasionally
rename an image that is being used as an icon. I store them in
/home/$USER/something/ direct
