Ethan Dicks from lcdproc put it right in front of me: I'm an idiot.
Looking at the dpatch should have told me to configure lcdproc as a
"vkd" in order to have a proper display.

I backported the new version of the hardy package to gutsy and tested.
It looks like all the regression has not been fixed, I still get the
weird char display.
I'll talk to upstream.
