I have downloaded gnome-settings-daemon 2.21.90.1-0ubuntu3 few hours ago
(apt-get upgrade), but the problem is still there - after gdm start -
gnome-settings-manager wouldn`t start, all applications are without the main
frame (so you can`t move, minimalize or close them by clicking on icon)..

sorry about my last note - now it is working just fine (but I don`t know
why) - I`ve restarted gdm and whole system many times, nothing happened.
But after the last gdm restart it is working just fine.

Confirmed. It didn't break the packages cache. I think that synaptyc
automatically configured it using dpkg.

Jike, this didn't do it for me.
I still got the errors mentioned above. I did this to be able to install
the package:
sudo init 1
cd /var/cache/apt/archives
dpkg -i --force-overwrite gnome-settings-daemon_2.21.90.1-0ubuntu2_i386.deb
apt-get upgrade
Then I was all set.

Boot in recovery mode (Root mode) and run 'apt-get -f install' then
reboot.
