I am now on a fresh install of 20.04 and can confirm that this works.
I have a theory:
Did github change their copy content from "git clone http" to "http...", I
might have been thrown of from the different practices. I am sorry, closing the
bug.

Can you maybe install gpaste and monitor the contents of the clipboard
when pressing that copy button? This would help diagnose exactly where
the problem lies.

You're not wrong, I can't say the bug is in Firefox.
All I know is I have a problem and that is when i push the copy button
on github, gitlab or whatever site that has autocopy to the clipboard,
It's not going to my clipboard.

If the text is indeed copied into the clipboard, and the problem is with
pasting the contents of the clipboard, then the bug is definitely not in
firefox. I normally only use Ctrl+V or Ctrl+Shift+V (in gnome-terminal),
and that works for me.

Can you confirm that you can paste with "shift + i" or "mouse3" ?
Ctrl - v seems to work.

I can't reproduce the issue either in a clean and fully up-to-date 20.04 VM.
Tested both the firefox deb and the snap, under x11 and wayland. All
combinations work as expected.

I just tried this on a fully up to date install of Kubuntu focal 20.04,
using the exact example link give in comment 3 and same firefox build.
Firefox successfully copied the repo clone link to the clipboard under
KDE.
